Kroger earns top score on disability inclusion, demonstrating commitment to diversity and equality. Learn more about their inclusive mission.
The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) is proud to announce that, for the fourth year in a row, the firm has been named a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” by the Disability Equality Index® (DEI).
“Kroger is humbled to receive this award for the fourth year running. Kroger’s senior director of diversity and inclusion, Reshamar Short, remarked that the award “serves as a testament to the company’s commitment to being an employer of choice for individuals of all backgrounds and abilities.” The company’s mission statement reads, in part, “As an equal opportunity employer, grocery provider, and community partner, we are driven to bring all people from all walks of life together, representing Our Purpose to Feed the Human Spirit, starting with our associates.”
The DEI survey evaluates aspects such as company culture, leadership, accessibility, employment practices, community involvement, support services, and supplier diversity. Participating businesses’ self-reported disability policies and processes were used to assign letter grades ranging from zero to one hundred.
Sam Stoner, a Kroger technology and digital associate and co-chair of the Our Abilities Associate Resource Group, shared, “I began losing my vision when I was about 12 years old.” I didn’t want anyone at Kroger to know about my impairment until they had gotten to know me, and that worry was present when I first started working there. I was welcomed with nothing but compassion when I disclosed that I had a vision handicap.
The DEI is the most complete disability inclusion assessment instrument and was developed by Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD). Its purpose is to assist businesses in developing a plan outlining specific steps they can take to ensure disability equality and inclusion.
