HOWELL – In order to make room for a new store in Freehold Township’s Freehold Raceway Mall, Lidl will close its store on Route 9 in Howell later this month.

A Lidl representative told What’s Going There on Friday that the shop, which debuted at the same Best Buy location at Route 9 and Friendship Road in February 2020, will close on July 16.

A representative said, “After a thorough review of the performance of our store network, we made the difficult decision to close the store in Howell on July 16.”

Because of its poor performance, we have decided to close this location and redirect our resources to others that are more centrally located and where we are experiencing the most growth.

Howell has lost yet another business; just months after reopening, the Boston Market on Route 9 has closed. I’ll explain why.

All of the store’s employees are being offered jobs at nearby competitors. The Howell, Michigan, staff’s efforts have been recognized, and the company wants them to remain part of its expanding retail footprint, according to a company representative.

The German supermarket chain is currently renovating a space at Freehold Raceway Mall to open a new location in Freehold Township. On Trotters Way, just next to Ashley Furniture, it will open a new 30,725-square-foot supermarket.

No opening date has been announced. The spokeswoman stated, “Work is progressing on the Freehold store and it is too early to give a specific timeframe for the opening.” We’re excited to keep growing in New Jersey.

Lidl has locations in Hazlet, Eatontown, Brick, and Lacey in Monmouth and Ocean counties. It has locations in North Brunswick and Woodbridge, both in Central Jersey, and plans to open locations in East Brunswick and Scotch Plains soon.
