- McDonald’s is actively experimenting new restaurant concepts and growing its global footprint.
- CosMc’s, a spin-off of the original chain, has been announced.
CEO Chris Kempczinski announced to investors on Thursday that McDonald’s would be launching a spinoff concept named CosMc’s.
Kempczinski, speaking on the chain’s second-quarter results call, stated, “Our new business ventures team is in the process of developing a new concept we will call CosMc’s, which we will test in a small handful of sites in a limited geography beginning early next year.” CosMc’s, the author writes, “has all the McDonald’s DNA but its own personality.”
The CEO has promised additional information on the topic during the company’s investor day scheduled for the end of the year.
Following the earnings call, the company told Insider that CosMc is a made-up figure from McDonaldland, the same place where Ronald McDonald and other fast food icons reside. The first appearance of the alien was in the late ’80s.
McDonald’s has embraced nostalgia plays before, and the CosMc’s spinoff is the latest example. For Grimmace’s 52nd birthday, the business brought him back with a viral purple shake. The first adult-oriented Happy Meals appeared in 2022.
