Target recalls over 2 million scented candles due to glass shattering

Target has called back about 2.2 million scented candles that were only sold in its stores because the glass jars could break while the wick was still burning.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Thursday. It includes Threshold Glass Jar 5.5 ounce 1-Wick and 20 ounce 3-Wick Candles with smells like Blue Agave & Cactus, Frosted Holly Berries, and Pineapple Sage. The candles were made in Vietnam and come in glass jars that can break or crack while being used, causing a risk of cuts and burns, according to a recall notice on the company’s website.

So far, 19 people have told Target that the jars broke or cracked while being used. The CPSC said that one of these events led to a slight injury. From February 2020 to July 2023, Target sold the candles all over the country for between $3 and $12.

Threshold candles with the following item numbers were included in the recall. These numbers can be found on the stickers on the bottom of the glass jars.

The candles were made in Vietnam, and 19 people have told Target that the jars have broken or cracked. The CPSC said that one of these events led to a slight injury. From February 2020 to July 2023, Target sold the candles all over the country for between $3 and $12.

The CPSC said that anyone who has one of the candles should stop using it right away and take it back to Target for a full refund. Customers can also call Target and ask for a pre-paid shipping label to send the item back by mail.

In May, the same type of candle, including the 14-ounce sizes, was recalled for the same reason. They also had trouble with the glass breaking in the jar.
