Wegmans customers face double charges due to system glitch on August 16. Refunds expected soon. Check bank statements.

Some customers were charged twice for food at Wegmans because of a glitch in the system.

People who shop at Wegmans Food Markets, a famous grocery store, should check their credit card statements because they were likely charged twice for in-store or online purchases.

Officials say that credit card purchases made on August 16 at all of Wegmans’ more than 110 locations across the United States were affected.

Officials said that the costly mistake didn’t affect EBT and debit card purchases with a PIN, unless the customer asked for them to be processed as credit.

People went on social media to talk about how upset they were with the grocery store company.

So, if you went to Wegmans yesterday, check your account twice, wrote Jessica Figueroa on Facebook. “They said there was a system-wide mistake that caused a lot of people to be charged twice. I just saw that my account was charged twice.”

Someone else told shoppers, “Check your bank statements.”

Wegmans said that the problem has been found and that they are working with the processors to get the charges taken back.

A company spokesperson said that customers should get their money back for the duplicate charges in the next few days, based on their bank or card issuer.

Wegmans said they don’t know what caused the mistake.
