McDonald’s large purple mascot, Grimace, turns 52 this year, so the fast food chain is offering a special called Grimace’s Birthday Meal in his honor.
In 1972, when he was initially debuted, Grimace (who is actually a huge taste bud) was called “Evil Grimace.” In his original form, he has four arms and stole all the cups from McDonald’s to prevent anyone from drinking milkshakes or Coke.
However, after complaints that the original Grimace scared off young customers, McDonald’s gave him a makeover. “We changed him to a soft, plush, two-armed blob of a sweetheart who only wanted McDonald’s milkshakes and to hang out with Ronald,” Roy T. On June 12, McDonald’s began selling Grimace’s Birthday Meal for “a limited time at participating restaurants, while supplies last,” as the company explained on Twitter.
